UC teams make quarterfinals

FOUR TEAMS from the University of Cebu (UC) reached the quarterfinals of the ongoing 21st Jawad Table Tennis Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) yesterday.

But UC’s bid for the title gets tougher in the quarters as it faces powerhouse teams such as defending champion Hua Ching Foundation, which boasts of players such as former UC varsity Glenn Donaire, Jimboy Baring, Bill Yap and brothers Glenn and Jason Rodriguez.

Hua Ching Foundation will face UC’s team D in the quarterfinals today. UC’s Team A will face Lapu-Lapu Table Tennis Association (LLTTA) Team A. UC’s Team A is composed of its best players in Daniel Jay Tormis, Val Stephen Jaca and Nielben Carreon.

“We have a big chances of winning but my players have to play very cautious and should be focused all the time,” said UC head coach Jessica Honoridez.

Table Tennis Association of North District (TATAN) Royal paddlers of Binondo Manila will go up against UC’s Team B. UC’s Team C goes up against the University of San Carlos./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
