TWO ‘MED REPS’ NABBED
TWO men posing as medical representatives were arrested in Sogod town, northern Cebu.
Police said Jerry Lim Gil, 36, of Naga City, and Jemilito Liken Andojar, 46, of Palompon, Leyte province, are members of a group preying on senior citizens.
Police said the group would visit barangays to conduct medical check-ups then would pressure people to buy their products.
Last Thursday, both men went to barangay Ilihan, Tabogon town for a similar activity.
They sold some medicine to 89-year-old resident Matias Villacastil Layague.
Police said the woman told the two men she didn’t have money but the suspects allegedly took her ring worth P20,000.
She sought the help of the police after both men left on board a motorcycle toward Sogod town.
Members of the Sogod police led by Senior Insp. Aldrin Villacampa set up a checkpoint, which the two men tried to avoid.
A chase ensued until the two men were cornered.
Police said they seized a a ring, nine one-dollar bills, two cellular phones and medical apparatus.

HABAL DRIVER DIES, FOUR HURT IN ROAD MISHAP
A 22-YEAR-OLD habal-habal driver was killed while four persons were wounded in a road accident involving two motorcycles in barangay 3, Tuburan town, northern Cebu.
Police identified the fatality as John Vincent Umandac.
His passenger Lucia Tabay, 28, was wounded.
Also wounded were the driver of the other motorcycle Paul Antonio Lumapas, 20, and his backriders Dante Bardoquillo and Jake Monares, both 15 years old.
Police said Umandac was about to turn left in an intersection when he was hit by the other motorcycle about 3 p.m. last Thursday.
Police said the motorcycle riders didn’t wear crash helmets.
Lumapas will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple physical injuries, said police./REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
