Pregnant woman stabbed, hurt

A woman eight months pregnant was stabbed and wounded by her neighbor in barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.

Mary Ann Salonoy, 28, sustained two stab wounds in the back and was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center.

The woman was later transferred to the Chong Hua Hospital, said police.

The suspected assailant, 23-year-old Francisco Geraldo Rodriguez was wounded after he was shot by another neighbor who defended the woman.

Police said the woman had just stepped out of her house when the suspect stabbed her twice shortly before noon last Tuesday.

Rodriguez tried to escape but someone shot him, said PO3 Leroy Baguio, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office.

Responding policemen brought the suspect and the victim to separate hospitals.

Police said personal grudges could be the motive behind the attack.

Police said two weeks ago, Rodriguez gave P1,000 to the victim and asked the woman to give the money to her live-in partner.

Police said Rodriguez got upset at the woman when he learned that the money was not given to the victim’s partner until the day that the stabbing occurred. /CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
