The country’s drug addiction experts will meet on the resort island of Panglao, Bohol, Wednesday to discuss the latest trends in the treatment of drug addiction.
The three-day convention of the Philippine College of Addiction Medicine (PCAM) will be held at the Center for Professional Development in Dauis, one of two towns on Panglao Island.
Dr. Antonio M. Gauzon, PCAM president, said this year’s theme is “Brain, Drugs and Behavior.”
Bohol Governor Edgardo Chatto is scheduled to welcome delegates while Representative Rene Lopez Relampagos will speak on the last day.
Among the topics and speakers are: “Neurobiology of Addiction” by Dr. Vicente Rosales Jr.; “Profiling the Brain of Drug Abusers” – Dr. Mikita Cardinez-Tan; “Susceptibility Genes in Alcoholism” – Dr. Charibel Escandelor; “Methamphetamine-induced Psychosis: Is It Schizophrenia?” – Dr. Glenda Basubas; and “Pain Relief vs. Addiction” – Dr. Antonio Yap.
Founded in 2005 by 27 doctors, PCAM now counts on some 200 specialists who are classified as fellows, diplomates or regular members.
