Damage to property in Sarangani floods hits P2M
MANILA, Philippines – Heavy rains and floods in Sarangani over the weekend have caused over P2 million worth of damages.
“Based on the assessment and validation conducted by the Malungon Flagship Program on Agriculture, total estimated damages in livestock and agriculture in villages in Malandag and Datal Tampal amount to P2,018,600 with 2.7 hectares damage in rice fields, 27.35 hectares in corn fields and 6,450 sqm of inland fishing,” said Army 1002nd Brigade spokesman Captain William Alfred Rodriguez.
But he said the around 400 families who sought shelter at evacuation centers have returned to their homes except for the 31 families whose houses were washed away by flood.
Meanwhile, 169 families in Sitio Lamlifew in Datal Tampal village will be relocated.
The Department of Agriculture in Soccsksargen also joined in the assessment for possible agricultural assistance to 155 affected farmers, Rodriguez said.
A psycho-social stress debriefing to affected families and distribution of relief assistance were also conducted by the Philippine National Red Cross Gen-Sar Chapter and the DSWD Soccsksargen.
