POLICE CHECK BUILDINGS
CEBU City police yesterday inspected high-rise buildings in the uptown area to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks in the United States.
The inspections were to assure guests and occupants of these buildings of their safety from terror threats, said Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
One of the buildings inspected was Crown Regency. Eduardo Sangol Jr., the hotel’s general manager, accompanied the police in the inspection.
Thousands died in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in the US after terrorists hijacked passenger jets and crashed them in the World Trade Center Complex in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
MAN NABBED FOR GUN
POLICE arrested a 28-year-old man for brandishing a gun in barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City on Monday night.
William Aldaba of Rubina Compound was arrested after police responded to a call about the sighting of an armed person in Basubas Street.
Police confiscated from Aldaba a .38 revolver with four live bullets, a vial and three sachets believed to contain shabu .
Investigation showed that Aldaba was having a drinking spree in Basubas Street past 8 p.m. and was seen tucking a gun in his waist.
A concerned citizen called the police, who then arrested the suspect.
Insp. Ramil Morpos, chief of the Subangdaku police station, said the police have been monitoring Aldaba in the past three months for possible Nubain use.
Aldaba, who said he was a member of the Akrho fraternity, was detained at the police station pending the filing of charges against him./Correspondent Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
