Book on Mandaue to be launched on 75th anniv of Presidencia bldg

A COFFEE table book which showcases Mandaue City’s booming industry, culture and history will be launched during the 75th or diamond anniversary of Presidencia Building on Wednesday.

The event is expected to be attended by the city mayor, city council, barangay officials and perhaps Pres.Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

City treasurer  and co-chairman of Presidencia celebration, Regal Oliva revealed that the conceptualization and making of the  book started November  2011 and was finished in the  last week of August.

“There has been no book written about Mandaue. This is a first,” Oliva said.

The project’s  P1.3 million expenses was taken from the city’s culturl funds.

So far, there are already 500 orders of the book from here and abroad.

The book with the tilte and theme “Mandaue, Our home, our pride, our future,” will also be given as tokens to the city’s VIP vistors.

The book will also serve as an instructional guide for both private and public schools in the city.

It will also be sold in local and international bookstores starting next month.

The Presidencia’s original structure was inaguarated in September 12, 1937 and expansions were added in 1975.

The estimated cost of the building was P28,000.

The city government has just been cleaning the Presidencia building since they can’t make any changes in the  structure after the National History Commission declared it a protected cultural heritage.

Head of Traffic Enforcement Agency in Mandaue (TEAM) Edwim Ermac said traffic in the streets passing the Presidencia building will be closed Wednesday.

As much as possible, they will be letting the motorists pass but when the program starts, they will be closing down the roads in the area. Jucell Marie P. Cuyos, Correspondent
