Tighter security planned in Donsol
SORSOGON CITY—Law enforcement authorities have imposed tighter security measures around Donsol following the second armed robbery in two months pulled off in the town that has attracted tourists through its encounters with whale sharks.
Senior Supt. Heriberto Olitoquit, Sorsogon police provincial director, said Thursday that more policemen were sent on patrol even at night.
Olitoquit, however, said “there is really no cause for alarm.”
Sorsogon Gov. Raul R. Lee and Chief Supt. Cecilio Calleja, Bicol police regional director, checked Donsol’s peace and order situation following the robbery at Elysia Resort, which is owned by a Korean couple.
The resort’s lone guard, Manuel Apuyan Jr., was killed in the robbery while cash and valuables worth at least P700,000 were taken by four armed robbers.
Some tourists left the town following the robbery. Lee, however, said the number of tourists who left was small compared to the number of those coming to experience encounters with whale sharks.
The governor told town officials he would support projects to improve security and tourism facilities in Donsol.
He proposed the installation of more streetlights in the town.
Olitoquit said town and police officials also agreed to maintain a 24-hour hotline.
