Talisay hostage drama
A FORMER CONVICT held hostage his child and live-in partner for half an hour after police tried to arrest him for brandishing a gun in sitio Canton, barangay Cansojong, Talisay City on Sunday.
Yeo Lastimosa, 37, surrendered to police after his cousin, Tronando Lastimosa, persuaded him to give up.
Police confiscated a .45 caliber pistol with six live bullets from Lastimosa.
A neighbor had called the police after seeing Lastimosa with a gun. When police arrived, Lastimosa ran to his house and held his family at gunpoint.
Police said Lastimosa had just been released from jail after serving time for murder. /Correspondent Gabriel C. Bonjoc
Danao shooting
A 28-YEAR-OLD man shot dead his 50-year-old father during an argument after they had a drinking spree at home in barangay Kahumayan, Danao City, Cebu.
Romeo Barbero, an employee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Danao City, was killed by a bullet in his back.
His son Junmie, a machine operator of Shooter’s Arm Manufacturing in Cebu City, surrendered after the incident.
He said they were both drunk when the violence occured.
Police are holding him in the station pending the filing of charges. /Reporter Rhea Rosell
Mandaue police chief
MANDAUE City can expect to see a new police chief.
Five names have been submitted to Mayor Jonas Cortes to choose from.
They include Senior Supt. Erson Digal, fromer Cebu provincial police chief and former acting Lapu-Lapu City police chief, Senior Supt. Mariano Natuel.
The change is due because Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac has finished his two-year stint as Mandaue city police chief and will be moved to another position.
The three other names in the list submitted by the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas are Senior Supt. Marciano Batiancila, Senior Supt. Eddie Benigay, and Senior Supt. Petronile Balderbrin. /Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
Talisay burglary
BURGLARS struck a house in Talisay City on Sunday dawn and fled with at least P50,000 worth of gadgets and cash.
The owner, Glo-Anne Quiachon, 38, was asleep when unidenitifed men entered her house on 6th street Carmen Village, barangay Dumlog.They destroyed the lock of the main door to enter.
The owner said she lost a computer laptop, a netbook, a cell phone and P2,000 in cash. Police are investigating the incident. /Correspondent Gabriel C. Bonjoc
