Stags, Knights win

THE SAN SEBASTIAN Stags inched closer towards securing a berth in the Final Four as they blasted the Mapua Cardinals, 77-62, in the 88th NCAA men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.

In the second game, Kevin Alas scored 35 points as Letran (8-6) defeated St. Benilde (4-10), 97-83.

Reigning league MVP Calvin “The Beast” Abueva showed once again how dominant he can be as he overwhelmed the Cardinals with an incredible second half performance and ended up with his fourth triple-double this season with 21 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists.

Mapua was ahead by as many as 14, 24-10, and were still up, 32-25, when Abueva took control late in the third canto./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
