MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DoH) remained on a code blue alert in the National Capital Region due to the rising number of leptospirosis cases.
Under a code blue alert, medical staff should work on a 24-hour duty, treating patients and preparing medicines and supplies for distribution in case of emergencies.
A Radyo Inquirer 990AM report quoted DoH-NCR director Dr. Eduardo Janairo as saying that they were still operating under the blue alert since intense monsoon rains ravaged much of the region and caused widespread flooding.
Janairo said they were also maintaining their round-the-clock operations especially now that the number of cases of leptospirosis rose to 3,410 (January 1 to August 25).
Data culled from the DoH indicated that most of the cases occurred in the National Capital Region, which had 938 cases, followed by Region 10 with 925 cases and Region 6 with 474 cases. There were 149 deaths out of the total number of cases of leptospirosis.
