Cuenco backs out of race
CEBU CITY—Poor health has forced one of this city’s most prominent politicians to retire from politics.
Antonio Cuenco, former congressman, was heeding his doctor’s advice, said a statement issued by his family.
Cuenco planned to run for congressman again next year.
In a message read by his eldest son, James, Cuenco said he realized he needed to retire when he felt dizzy as a result of his vertigo during a recent meeting with village leaders in Barangay Guadalupe about two weeks ago.
Cuenco collapsed and was prevented from falling to the floor by James.
Cuenco, in a statement, said he had himself checked by his doctor who confirmed that his vertigo started to recur.
