AWARD, P100,000 FOR CENTENARIES
For centenarian Cebuanos to avail of the award and P100,000 cash incentive from the Cebu City government, one has to prove at least a 10-year residency in the city.
The additional requirements were contained in an amendment to the Centenary Senior Citizens ordinance introduced by Councilor Rodrigo Abellanosa. The amendment was passed last Sept. 5.
Abellanosa’s ordinance was first approved last year. It was amended during the council’s Sept. 5 session to add a requirement to qualified centenarians and increase their P5,000 cash gift to P100, 000.
The cash gift will be given on top of the financial aid that senior citizens are already receiving from the city government to defray cost of their maintenance medicines and other basic needs.
Recognition of centenary senior citizens or those aged 100 years old or more are scheduled every Oct. 31st of the each year.
Abellanosa said the country also celebrated the Senior Citizens Month celebration every October./Chief of Reporters Doris C. Bongcac
DISMISSAL OF CLERK AFFIRMED
The Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas has affirmed the verdict against a revenue collection clerk in Malabuyoc town, Cebu, who was dismissed from service for accepting bribes.
Emerito Devilleres, revenue collection clerk 1, was sacked for asking for money in exchange for facilitating the transfer of name of the tax declarations of the lands bought by the complainants.
Devilleres claimed that he was denied due process as he never received any communication from the Ombudsman Visayas since the start of the case except of the ruling.
He also said that he has already returned the money to the complainants.
But graft investigation and prosecution officer Llorene Grace Razo-Ompod, in her order, found Devilleres’ claims “devoid of merit.”
“Respondent’s allegations of denial of due process is clearly misleading,” Ompod said.
She said Devilleres even asked the Ombudsman to grant his request for extension of time to file his counter-affidavit./Reporter Ador Vincent Mayoln
