MANILA, Philippines—Thunderstorms pummelled Eastern Visayas and Mindanao as a developing cyclone hovered over the area, the state weather bureau said Friday.

The low pressure area was last seen 380 kilometers east of Surigao, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to east will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and coming from the northeast to northwest over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
