JAYVIE AGOJO aims to lead the Manila Southwoods’drive for a second straight title in the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Ladies’ Interclub golf championships on Sept. 18 to 21 at the Sta. Barbara golf course in Iloilo.
Agojo has been the toast of the town recently after she conquered the Southeast Asian Amateur Golf Championship last week in Indonesia and won the women’s individual title.
Supporting Agojo are teammates Lora Roberto, Miya Legaspi, June Hee Kyung, Regine de Guzman, Bernadette Abiera, Sunshine Baraquel and Marie Claire Ong.
Expected to give Southwoods a run for its money is last year’s runner-up Del Monte, led by Lovelyn Guioguio. The other members are Kristine Leonen, Taj Tabanas, Apple Fudolin, Rainstar Roque, Eva Minoza, Ping Jarales and Pam Mariano.
At least 27 teams, including four foreign squads, are listed in the event.
Sta. Barbara, the country’s oldest golf course, is being spruced up for the Interclub. “The club is excited to host the Ladies Interclub,” club manager Butch Jamerlan said. “The field will be in for a very different challenge.”
The 105-year-old course is a par-70 course that, when stretched for pro tournaments, can measure up to just a little over 6,400 yards. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
