DOJ employee slapped with extortion case

MANILA, Philippines—The Manila City Prosecutor already filed a criminal case against an employee of the Department of Justice (DOJ) who was arrested in an entrapment operation for extorting P250,000 from a litigant.

Facing robbery extortion case is Mutya Santiago, staff of Assistant Chief State Prosecutor Severino Gana. The case has been filed before the Manila Regional Trial Court.

Santiago was arrested last Aug. 31 at the DoJ premises by members of the National Bureau of Investigation for threatening and intimidating a certain Nuriza Abeja Jr. that the adultery case which was dismissed will be reversed if she will not give P300,000. The amount was later reduced to P250,000.

“Abeja agreed to give the amount demanded to accused…,”the information which was filed before the Manila Court stated.

The information stated that a certain Louie was conspiring with Santiago.
