Gwen tells Prov’l Board: Passing budget is your job

AS far as Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia is concerned, it is the job of the Provincial Board to scrutinize the passage of the budget.

This was her reaction when asked about the recent developments in the PB especially after establishing a new majority bloc.

“They should. That is their duty. Why, didn’t they examine it before?, she asked.

Last Monday, the board deferred approval of this year’s supplemental budget No. 1 worth P271,965,000 which includes incentives of provincial government employee’s under the Capitol employee’s collective negotiation agreement.

PB members are set to meet next Friday to discuss the reorganization and the supplemental budget.

In a separate interview, Rep. Pablo John Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd district said he sees “politicking” behind the reorganization.

“The new majority in the PB is driven by politics. Before, there was no problem passing the budget. Why suddenly, the approval hit snags now? he told reporters yesterday.

“This is what we call the silly season of politics. Some silliness is bound to happen in this silly season of politics,” he added.

But Pablo John said that he is still “hoping” that majority of the PB are “reasonable people.
