A 92-year-old woman who was receiving a monthly pension from the United States was killed in what the police believe was a case of robbery.
The bloodied body of Victorina de las Alas Gonzales was found on a bed inside her room at the house she shared with several relatives on Anahaw Street, Barangay Comembo, Makati City, at 8:15 p.m. on Monday.
Superintendent Jaime Santos, acting city police chief, said that Gonzales, a widow, had been stabbed at least 32 times.
She was brought to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
“We are looking into the angle of robbery because the $400 she had just withdrawn from the bank was missing,” Santos added.
Aside from the money, several pieces of jewelry were missing while the victim’s room was in disarray.
Santos said they were also looking at the possibility that the victim knew the thief since there was no sign of forced entry.
“The dog did not even bark during the robbery,” he added. Niña Calleja
