MANILA, Philippines—League of Cities of the Philippines president, Mayor Oscar Rodriguez of San Fernando City, Pampanga, said Tuesday he took the recent appointment of Secretary Mar Roxas as the new head of the Department of Interior and Local Government positively amid remarks saying that he shouldn’t accept the job due to his current position in a big political party.
In an interview with John Susi of “Susi ng mga Balita” on Radio Inquirer 990AM, Rodriguez said that while there are allegations that Roxas’ appointment has something to do with the upcoming senatorial and presidential elections, “I’m looking at the positive side because as the president [of the Liberal Party], he is experienced in political problems. . . and political leaders.”
Rodriguez said it would be a “self-inflicted damage” on the part of the party if Roxas will use his position to “antagonize other political leaders.”
“He knows that,” Rodriguez said, but added that Roxas is unlikely to do such allegations based on how he knew the secretary.
