Top 80 high-risk sites for floods, landslides in Cebu

With the rainy season, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) 7 has warned anew of landslides and flooding.

Where are the most vulnerable sites in Cebu?

Eighty barangays most at risk of ground failure and floods are identified in geohazard maps in detailed 1-50,0000 scale that can be downloaded from four government websites and one private organization.

These are the DENR (www.denr.gov.ph), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (www.mgb.gov.ph), Philippine Information Agency (www.pia.gov.ph) and  Environmental Science for Social Change (www.essc.org.ph).

These “highly susceptible” areas should be carefully monitored and discouraged as places to live, said MGB-7 Regional Director Loreto B. Alburo in the wake of weather bureau reports that heavier rains are still expected despite the departure of typhoon “Ambo”.

In Cebu City, five barangays are at most risk to flooding – Kasambagan, Kinasang-an, Labangon, Mabolo, and Bonbon.

Another 19 of the city’s 80 barangays  are highly susceptible to landslides.

These are Lusaran, Binaliw, Guba, Budlaan, Malubog, Buot-Taup, Busay, Sirao, Taptap, Tagbao, Tabunan, Pung-ol Sibugay,Sudlon II, Sudlon I, Sinsin, Buhisan, Pamutan, Sapangdaku, and Adlaon.

In Mandaue City, seven barangays are high risk – Subangdaku, Mantuyong, Umapad, Opao, Alang-alang, Guizo, and Pakna-an.

5 barangays in Toledo City – Tungkay, Pangamihan, Bagacay, Loay and Don Andres Soriano

1 barangay Lamac in Pinamungahan town

5 barangays in Asturias -Agbanga, Baye, Bairan, Kanluangan and Sak-sak

12 barangays in Catmon town –  Amancion,  Anapog, Bactas, Bongyas, ambangkaya, Cabungaan, Can-ibuang, Duyan, Ginabucan, Panalipan, Tabili and Tinabyonan.
