MANILA, Philippines—A man missing his young son in the province ended up shooting himself in the head early Monday in Quezon City.
The jobless Guillermo Magdasal, 39, was found dead by another son just outside the family home at the corner of Kaunlaran and Kalayaan Sts. in Barangay (village) Batasan Hills.
The victim’s son Gilbert told police that prior to hearing a lone gunshot, his father was seen drinking liquor by himself outside the house.
The son added that he did not know that his father had any problems but he did hear him talk about wanting to see his other son in Iloilo during his drinking binge.
At around 12:30 a.m., Gilbert was inside the house when he heard a single gun shot.
Case investigator Police Officer 2 George Caculba said Magdasal died on the spot due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the left temple.
Gilbert rushed outside to see Magdasal already fallen, the .38 caliber revolver he used a few paces away from the body.
