PARK N’ Go Bakeshop-Yellow of playing coach Romy “El Presidente” Rama kept its unbeaten record after notching its fifth straight win last Sunday with an 88-86 thriller against CJ Optical-Black in Division B of the 2011 Talisay Balik-Basketball Association (TBA) Inter-color basketball tournament at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
The Bakers jumped to a 27-20 rally in the opening period but CJ Optical-Black responded with a blistering 34-13 rally in the second to erect a commanding 14-point lead, 54-40 at the half.
But Park N’ Go countered with a 29-16 run behind 3-point artist Cesar Alcordo who erupted with 15 points in that stretch to come to within one, 69-70, entering the final quarter.
The two protagonists engaged in an air-tight battle in the fourth period until Cesar Alcordo nailed a booming triple in the final 21 seconds to give CJ Optical a slim 85-86 lead. But the Black team committed a costly turnover paving the way for Aikan Cabañero’s undergoal stab off a pass from pointguard Michael Arias for the final score.
Cesar Alcordo steered the Bakers with a game-high 26 points while Aikan Cabañero added 16. Cual Campo and Abet Villaver paced CJ Optical with 22 and 16 points, respectively.
