A teenager and his 14-year-old girlfriend were just talking in front of the former’s house in Quezon City when they were shot and killed by motorcycle-riding men on Saturday night.
According to a police investigator, the armed men’s target was apparently 19-year-old Marlon Moralde. His girlfriend, Marian Gaudia, just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, he added.
The shooting took place at 9 p.m. on Saturday at the corner of Adarna Extension and Campopot Streets, Unit 5, Barangay Commonwealth.
Both victims were residents of the same barangay. They died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Police Officer 2 Roldan Cornejo of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that the couple were seated outside Moralde’s house, just talking to each other, when they were approached by two men on a motorcycle.
One of the motorcycle riders immediately alighted from the vehicle and fired upon the victims.
Although wounded, the victims tried to run away but the gunman caught up with them and fired more shots.
At this point, the other motorcycle driver approached the couple and shot Moralde in the head. The two armed men then got back on their motorcycle and escaped.
Scene of the Crime Operatives later recovered three bullet casings and a slug from a cal. .45 pistol as well as seven bullet casings from a 9 mm pistol.
Motive under investigation
Cornejo told the Inquirer that the motive for the attack on the couple remained under investigation.
He pointed out that according to a witness, the armed men initially approached Moralde.
“It is possible that they never intended to kill Gaudia but they had to get her, too because she might have recognized them,” he said.
The police official added that they have launched a search for the two gunmen.
