Webmasters secure final twice-to-beat seat with victory over winless USPF Panthers

The reigning champions University of Cebu (UC) Webmaster clinched the last twice-to-beat bonus as they kept the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers winless, 69-63, in the last day of eliminations in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. men’s basketball tournament last night at the Cebu Coliseum.

UC finished the elimination round with an even 3-3 (win-loss) record, the same as the University of San Carlos (USC), which won, 82-77, over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats earlier in the day.

The Southwestern University Cobras, also with a 3-3 card,  came away with the third seed in the quarterfinal round with a quotient of 1.2519 while UC took the fourth seed with a 0.9727. USC ended with 0.8418.

The playoffs begin today with the Cobras facing off against CIT-U. UC will also take on USC in the main game.

Brian Heruela carried UC on his big, broad shoulders with phenomenal numbers of 31 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, two steals and an incredible six blocked shots.

Kim Gomez  and Gil Wagas also bombed away from beyond the three-point arc with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

In juniors play, CIT-U blasted Don Bosco, 72-50. They start the playoffs as the fourth seed and will take on UC today. Third-seeded USC faces off against the Cebu Eastern College Dragons.
