DAVAO CITY — Strong aftershocks and more quakes have been monitored since the magnitude 7.6 quake — felt around 8:47 p.m. on August 31 — hit Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported on its website.

No new damages were reported but the 19 quakes, majority of them taking place off Surigao del Norte, reportedly triggered evacuations, especially in coastal areas in Surigao and Davao Oriental.

Phivolcs said the quakes had magnitudes ranging from 3.6 to 6.8 and were mostly tectonic in origin. (With a report from Frinston Lim, Inquirer Mindanao)
