7.6-magnitude quake jolts Bicol too—Phivolcs

LEGAZPI CITY—The strong earthquake that shook the provinces of Samar and Leyte and Mindanao Friday night was also felt in parts of the Bicol, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The earthquake of tectonic origin was felt at Intensity 5 in Legazpi City and Sorsogon, the agency said.

Phivolcs instruments recorded the earthquake at about 8:47 p.m. with a magnitude of 7.7.

Ed Laguerta of Phivolcs in Legazpi, said instruments located the earthquake at 10.83 degrees north and 126.71.63 degrees east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar and with a depth of 10 kilometers.

There were no reports of casualties or damage to property.

Laguerta said a Tsunami Alert Level 3 warning was issued along the east coast of the Philippines which meant immediate evacuation of residents living in coastal villages in Northern and Eastern Samar, Leyte, southern Leyte, Surigao Del Norte and Surigao Del Sur.
