The University of Cebu managed to survive a surprising surge by the Ilonggos in the athletics competition in the first two days of the 17th Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals at the Cebu City Sports Center last weekend.

With the annual multi-sporting event entering its final stages today, the 16-time defending champion Webmasters have to do the same against another foe if it wants to continue its dominance in the secondary division.

The powerhouse Webmasters currently lord the standings with 90 points but the University of San Carlos-Basic Education (USC-BED) are at close second with 77.8 points.

Three more sporting events are left in the meet and ironically, USC-BED are contenders in all three.

Chess, swimming and badminton are the remaining events. USC–BED is known to be tough in chess and swimming and also has a good chance in badminton since its smashers have made it to the semifinal round.

If USC-BED manages to dethrone and upset UC, it may complete a sweep as its elementary team virtually sealed the title as it leads the standings with 70.25 points.

USC-BED, the defending champion, has a comfortable lead against the second running University of the Visayas (UV), which has 61.25. Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) is at third with 39.45 points.

At the end of this two-weekend event, the sure winner will be Team Visayas as it sees a stronger lineup for the 4th National Milo Little Olympics slated next month at the Marikina Sports Park.

Considering the performance and the level of competitiveness shown by the Visayan athletes in the recent Visayas leg, the roster for the Visayas team that is seeking to bag a grand slam in the Nationals is expected to be a stronger one compared to last year.

The National Capital Region (NCR) will take its turn to host the annual national meet and will be considered as the team to beat.
