MANILA, Philippines—Seventy-five families from Caloocan City were displaced after their houses were gutted by fire Friday afternoon that investigators said could have been caused by an electrical short circuit, an official said.

Senior Fire Officer 4 Randy Resurreccion said the blaze gutted roughly 15 houses along Salmon Street, Barangay (village), Dagat-dagatan in Caloocan City at 12:31 p.m. which started from the house of one Asterio Manzano.

“Neighbors noticed that there is thick black smoke coming from the house of Manzano,” he said, adding that the fire rapidly affected adjacent houses.

The fire, Resurreccion said, reached third alarm before it was completely put out at 1:55 p.m.

No one was injured but roughly P1 million worth of properties were destroyed, Resurreccion said.
