TWO city councilors crossed party lines to propose the renaming of a Cebu City flyover after a distinguished Cebuano journalist.
City Councilors Ronald Cuenco and Margot Osmeña wanted the flyover in barangay Mambaling named after the late press secretary Cerge Remonde.
They presented to the City Council last Wednesday morning a draft ordinance for the purpose. The legislative measure was referred to the Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission.
The naming of the structure after Remonde “will give tribute and honor to the late press secretary Remonde who was considered to be one of the Most Outstanding Cebuanos.”
Former South District Rep. Antonio Cuenco first raised a proposal to name the Mambaling after Remonde who died on Jan. 19, 2010.
Officials of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Cebu Chapter also wrote Councilor Cuenco, the former congressman’s son, on July 4 to support the proposal.
“KBP in its letter said that Mr. Remonde was an outstanding broadcaster and an outstanding leader in the broadcast industry as attested to by his unprecedented six year term as chairman of the KBP, a position elected by the general membership of the association,” said the draft ordinance./ Chief of Correspondent Doris C.
