Marijuana recovered from boy in jail visit

At least 36 marijuana sticks were found mixed with junk food which were supposed to be delivered by a 14-year-old boy to an inmate at the Mandaue City Jail.

The boy, who was celebrating his birthday during the arrest yesterday, said he didn’t know that the plastic bag contained marijuana sticks. Some bread and soap were also found in the plastic bag.

The boy arrived at the facility around 1 p.m.

The boy was stopped when jail personnel found marijuana sticks in the plastic bag he was carrying during the inspection.

In an interview, the boy said he was surprised that the plastic bag contained marijuana sticks.

He identified a certain Raul and Joy as the persons who instructed him to bring the plastic bag to inmate Eduard Baguio.

“They forced me to bring the plastic bag to the jail. I didn’t know that it contained marijuana sticks,” said Junjun in Cebuano.

The boy said Raul and Joy paid him P13 to bring the plastic bag to Baguio. He said it was the second time that he was asked to bring something to the jail.

The boy was turned over to the Mandaue City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) office.

The two persons who instructed the boy to bring the plastic bag to the jail were later identified as Raul Sangcap, 28, of barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City, and Joey Gestopa of barangay Looc, Mandaue.

Acting on the information given by the boy, members of the Mandaue City Intelligence Branch (CIB) conducted a buy-bust operation in Looc past 8 p.m. the same day.

Sangcap was arrested during the operation but Gestopa eluded arrest.

Police said 10 hand-rolled marijuana sticks were recovered from Sangcap’s possession.

Sangcap was detained at Subangdaku police station pending the filing of charges against him.
