/ 10:46 PM August 30, 2012

The police have asked for help in identifying the woman who killed herself by jumping in front of an oncoming train at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Edsa station at 5:50 a.m. Thursday.

The victim was described as between 45 and 50 years old, said Chief Inspector Joey Goforth, Pasay City police investigation division chief.

She was dressed in a pair of cropped pants and a light blue top which resembled the top half of a hospital scrub suit.

She had P29 in her pockets, a single journey LRT ticket but no identification card.

The victim’s head was crushed by the wheels of the train, making identification difficult, the police added.

Some personnel at the LRT station described the victim as normal in appearance although she seemed depressed and troubled.

“She couldn’t get her card into the ticket slot. They had to help her,” Goforth said, quoting witnesses.

He added that based on the footage taken by a closed-circuit television camera at the station, the woman had jumped.

“There were only 15 to 20 people on the platform at the time. There was enough space. She did not slip nor was she pushed,” he said.

The incident forced LRT trains to shorten their trips, plying from Central to Roosevelt stations and vice versa. Normal operations resumed at 9:30 a.m.  Jaymee T. Gamil
