MANILA, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay is no longer interested in the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) post because he is already enjoying his present responsibilities.

United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) spokesman JV Bautista said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM Thursday that Binay is satisfied with his current tasks under the Aquino administration.

“He is in charge of the National Housing Authority and the Pag-Ibig. He saw the big potential of these shelter agencies in helping people,” Bautista said.

“When he was mayor of Makati, one of his flagship projects was helping the poor. The welfare programs of Makati is one of the best in the country,” he added.

Bautista added that when Binay had experienced helping people through the agencies and when he was given additional responsibility as Presidential Advisor on Overseas Filipino Workers Concerns, he showed he was fully capable of handling them.

“He is thankful for the president because he was given the responsibility to serve the people through these agencies,” Bautista said.

He added that Binay just wants to focus on his present duties until the end of his term.

The DILG secretary post was left vacant due to the death of Jesse Robredo in a plane crash in waters off Masbate last August 18. Binay had previously stated that he was not interested in the position.
