MANILA, Philippines—A woman died after she jumped off a passenger platform at a station of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) a little before dawn Thursday, a spokesman for the LRT Authority said.

In a Twitter post, Lawyer Hernando Cabrera said the women died on the spot after she jumped into the railway of an approaching train at LRT1’s EDSA station around 5:50 a.m.

“Tumalon sa riles ng incoming train (She jumped into the track of an incoming train),” Cabrera said in a text message as to why the victim was hit by a train going north towards Roosevelt.

The woman was about 50 to 60 years old, and was wearing what appeared to be a hospital patient gown and jogging pants, Cabrera said.

The victim, he said, has been taken out of the crime scene some three hours after around 8:50 a.m., but several trips remain affected due to the incident.

Cabrera said that for the northbound lane, trains are operating only from Vito Cruz to Roosevelt, and back.
