Milk feeding to benefit Mandaue SPED school

Around 100 special children are targeted to benefit from the fresh milk feeding program that was launched on Tuesday at the Mandaue City Central Integrated SPED School.

Quota International Mandaue Chapter president Aurora Achas signed a memorandum of agreement with the school and Adam Jennie’s Christian Center for the implementation of the project.

The organization of civic-minded women initiated the project to promote health among the special children.

“We will monitor the weight of the children to see if their health has improved after the feeding,” said Achas.

The agreement assured the children of a 30-day supply of fresh milk.

Achas said they were planning to conduct feeding everyday for six months to ensure improvement on the health of the children, but they still have to allocate funding for the purpose.

Pinky Shan, Quota committee chairman, said they chose to feed the children with fresh milk as this is good for their health and very nutritious.

Former 6th District representative Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, Quota International Mandaue Charter president, said their project does not only promote health for the children, but also conduct livelihood training for the hearing impaired, such as candle making so they can sell candles on All Souls Day and All Saints Day.

Ruiz said Quota International Mandaue has been implementing projects that benefited mostly the poor in Mandaue since it started in 1989. /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
