An Indian national was arrested for allegedly defrauding at least six women in Manila of thousands of pesos.
The alleged estafa victims said Deepak Mehta convinced them to lend him money but reneged on his promise to pay them back.
Police Officer 2 Marlon Anonuevo of the Manila Police District said Mehta, 35, of Sampaguita Street, Makati City, is now detained at the Pasay City police station for similar complaints.
One of the complainants, a private school teacher, said the Indian “befriended” her while she and a coteacher were at a hotel in Manila.
“He was so good, we felt like we were being hypnotized while he was talking to us,” she recalled.
Now doubtful that she would still recover her money, she said she filed a complaint because “we just want him to stop victimizing Filipino women.”
She said that prior to Mehta’s arrest, she again saw the suspect talking to another young woman in a Pasay City mall recently. Nancy Carvajal
