A private driver was shot and left for dead in Caloocan City by armed robbers who took his boss’s sport utility vehicle Monday afternoon in Quezon City.
Jowie Pintuan, 38, was still unconscious when found by village watchmen who brought him to Diosdado Macapagal Medical Center.
Investigators said Pintuan worked for Patrocinio Isleta, 73, a retired general who owned the stolen beige Nissan X-Trail (NHU-304).
According to a police report, Pintuan had just taken his lunch at around 1 p.m. on Monday and was about to board the vehicle then parked at the back of St. Luke’s Medical Center when three armed men approached him.
One of them hit him on the neck with a gun. After forcing him into the back seat, the robbers then commandeered the vehicle and drove off.
Pintuan, a resident of Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City, was found an hour later with a gunshot wound in the back at an unspecified location in Caloocan.
Two other carjacking incidents were reported over the weekend in Quezon City. Police said both cases involved a three-member gang who dumped the victimized driver in another location.
A Toyota Revo was stolen on Saturday afternoon while a Toyota Fortuner was taken Sunday morning.
Superintendent Froilan Uy of the Quezon City Police District’s anticarnapping said investigators had to get additional details from Pintuan and that it was still premature to link Monday’s robbery to the two earlier cases. Julie M. Aurelio
