Sick boy needs money for chemotherapy

To save Kyrone Chad Velasco’s life, his parents have been forced to pawn their tricycle, the family’s only source of livelihood, for P20,000.

“We bought it on installment basis from the money we received during our wedding in 2005. We have also sold our only piece of farmland,” Irene, the 7-year-old boy’s mother, told the Inquirer.

The money from the sale of the lot and the pawning of the tricycle went to  Kyrone’s chemotherapy sessions.

The boy is suffering from acute lymphocytic leukemia and needs to undergo 10 cycles of treatment at Philippine Children’s Hospital at P62,000 each. So far, he has completed just two cycles.

Irene said that her son was also scheduled to undergo a bone marrow laboratory test on Aug. 29 although they still need to raise the P11,000 fee.

“I told Kyrone that he is closer to getting better if he follows the advice of his doctor to refrain from drinking soda and eating noodles. He is taking it quite seriously that is why he eats a lot of green leafy vegetables like malunggay,” said Irene, a native of Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. She and her husband Richard have two other children.

Those who want to help the Velascos can call Irene at 0919-7231802.

Donations are welcome and can be deposited in her BPI Family Savings Bank account (account number 6386131978, account name Irene Velasco).
