MANILA, Philippines–Three armed men posing as policemen barged into an eight-year-old boy’s birthday party on Sunday in Quezon City and robbed guests of their valuables.

The suspects pretended to be law enforcers looking for an illegal recruiter when they slipped into the house of nurse Arlene Tamayo, 42, on K-8th St. in Barangay West Kamias.

Case investigator Police Officer 2 Michael Tilan said the nurse was hosting a birthday party for her son when the robbery took place.

The impostors were described to be in their early 20s and wearing shirts and shorts.

Among those who lost their belongings were guests Estrella Go, 40, Emerencia Tamayo, 50, Abet Castro, 50, and Emelita Cruz, 62.

The victims altogether lost P13,500 in cash; a Dell laptop worth P40,000; two digital cameras; four cellphones; a necklace; a wrist watch; a bracelet; and several IDs.

Arlene told police that they had just eaten and were praying in the living room at around 3 p.m. when they saw one of the men walk through the front door and introduce himself as a policeman.

Tilan later learned that the house gate was left slightly open, through which the thieves snuck in.

The suspect, who stood 5’8” tall and was of slim built, said they were looking for an illegal recruiter named Marlyn.

As he spoke, two other men entered the house and, to the shock of the guests, the three took their valuables then quickly fled.

Tilan described the two other suspects as around 5’5” tall, thin and dark-skinned.
