Holiday pay today (Saturday)

MANILA, Philippines—Workers will get additional wages if they report for duty on Saturday, April 9, Araw ng Kagitingan, as a regular holiday nationwide in remembrance of the valor and heroism of the country’s soldiers and veterans in Bataan and Corregidor during World War II.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz called on the country’s employer sector to ensure voluntary compliance with core labor standards for workers on this regular holiday day.”

Baldoz said special pay rules must be observed by companies requiring their employees to report for duty today.

If it’s the employee’s regular workday, he is entitled to twice his basic pay on the first eight hours of work, and an additional 30 percent to his hourly rate if he works overtime.

If it’s the employee’s rest day and he reports to work, he shall get to 130-percent more to his daily rate, plus another 30-percent to his hourly rate if he works overtime.

However, those employed under a “no-work, no-pay” scheme who reports for duty today shall not get extra pay if they were absent or on leave with pay on Friday.
