FERNANDO Ocon of the RWS Gym of Cebu lost in his bid to annex the WBO Oriental flyweight belt bowing by unanimous decision to defending champion Kwanpichit 13 Rien Express of Thailand last Friday at the Bangla Boxing Stadium in Patong Beach in Phuket, Southern Thailand.
The Thai used effective body shots and won handily by scores of 117-111, 118-110 and 120-108.
Ocon’s record dropped to 10W-2L, 2 KOs. He also lost in a previous bid to win the WBO Oriental miniflyweight title against Jether Oliva of Gen.Santos City last year in a bout held in San Francisco, Southern Leyte.
The 30 year-old Kwanpichit remained undefeated with a record of 17 wins, 6 by knockout. He is ranked fifth in the world in the 112 lb division by the World Boxing Organization (WBO).
Meanwhile, Ocon’s stablemate, Romnick Magos (7-2, 3 KOs) also lost in his bid to win the IBF Pan Pacific flyweight title from Thai Rusalee Samor (18-3, 8 KOs) also by a 12-round unanimous decision at Trat City Sports Center, Trat City, Thailand last Aug. 17.
It was a close give and take battle but Samor dominated the final two rounds and got the decision by 116-112, 115-113, 116-112.
