Cheaper air fare for soldiers

MANILA, Philippines—Soldiers and their dependents can now avail themselves of discounted air fares when they travel around the country.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has signed a memorandum of agreement with budget airline Zest Airways to give discounts to military personnel and their families on all its domestic flights.

“We have been witness to the dedication of the men and women of the armed forces, most especially in times of national disasters,” said Arturo Alejandrino, Zest Air director.

“Allow us in Zest Air to show our gratitude to you in your humanitarian efforts. It is our way of thanking you for all the efforts you have done during times of calamities,” he said.

Under the MOA, Zest Air will give a 10-percent discount to soldiers for all domestic destinations.

Their dependents and civilian personnel of the AFP would also be entitled to a 5-percent discount in air fare.

“The airline will also extend a 10-percent discount… in the transport of official AFP cargo, the remains (of fallen soldiers), special cargo and ammunition,” said AFP deputy chief Lt. Gen. Gregorio Macapagal.

“(This) will not only enhance the capacity of (the AFP) in performing our obligations, but it will also positively affect the morale and welfare of all our personnel,” he added.
