Heavy equipment began leveling burnt structures in barangay Tejero to prepare for opening a 10-meter-wide access road.
Engineering personnel also visited barangay Punta Princesa to survey the fire site.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said he wants access roads and reblocking completed within this week in the two barangays where fire struck on July 9 and 13, displacing almost 500 families.
In a meeting, Rama told City Hall’s engineering department that he wanted Alviola Street in Tejero widened to its ideal 10-meter width and connected to Sampaguita Street.
Alviola Street, the community’s main access road, faces a dead end.
Uniform lot sizes of 20 sq. meters to 22 sq. meters will be allocated for fire victims and those displaced by the road work, said Collin Rosell, head of the Department for the Welfare of the Urban Poor. /Correspondent Edison delos Angeles
