The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars have redemption on their mind when they tangle with the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildcats today in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Jaguars are coming off their first loss of the season, a 76-89 loss at the hands of the unbeaten University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers last weekend.
With a full week to rest, recover and prepare, the crew of head coach Edito Salacot are expected to fire on all cylinders, especially against a CIT-U squad that is still smarting from the 74-101 shellacking against the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras last Tuesday.
At 3-1 (win-loss) the Jaguars are sitting in second place in the standings behind UV and will be aiming to maintain their status behind the play of veterans Abulaiz Sulaiman, James Regalado and Miguel Tabaloc.
CIT-U, on the other hand, will try to improve on their miserable 1-3 mark behind the efforts of Allen Dimco, Jeffrey Taghoy and Floyd Taboada.
Interestingly, Taboada, the Wildcats’ best offensive weapon, played sparingly against SWU and saw more time on the bench than on the floor.
