DoLE on Robredo: ‘Friend of labor, one of its greatest generals’
In a statement on Friday, the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) and the agencies under it said they were one with the nation in mourning the passing of Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, whom they described as a “friend of labor” who supported the agency’s fight against child labor, all forms of illegal recruitment and human trafficking. “With his passing, the fight just lost one of its greatest generals,” the statement said.
The DoLE statement also expressed appreciation for Robredo who, as mayor of Naga City, provided the building that now houses DoLE’s provincial office in Camarines Sur and its agencies, the Technical Skills and Development Authority and the National Labor Relations Commission.
Naga City, on Robredo’s watch, also became the first city in the country to institutionalize the Public Employment Service Office, the DoLE statement added.
