IF there’s a huge fight event in Asia, it is almost certain a Filipino will be in the scene.
But it is rare to see two Filipinos to go up and try to beat the other down. But in the upcoming Champion vs. Champion: Asia’s Greatest Battle of Champions, two Filipinos will try to best the other in front of an expected 12,000 fight fans.
Their showdown will take place on Sept. 3 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Eduard Folayan of Baguio City, former URCC welterweight champion and a wushu practitioner, will pit his martial arts skills against Danish-Filipino Ole Laursen, a Muay Thai expert.
Folayang, a full-blooded Igorot, boasts of a 9-1 (win-loss) record, with 5 victories coming by way of knockouts, 3 by decisions, and 1 by submission. Laursen, the more experienced fighter of the two, parades a 53-19 slate as a professional kickboxer and as an MMA fighter, the Danish-Filipino, who now resides in Thailand, whips up a 5-2 record. All five victories are knockouts. /Correspondent Salven Lagumbay
