Quezon City lawmen arrested Tuesday night four men who allegedly mauled and stabbed two brothers in Barangay Baesa after one of the siblings tried to pacify the suspects’ drunken argument.
The older brother later died while the other remained in the hospital.
Police said Albert Sumat, 29, and Romart, 18, were walking home after buying powdered milk when they encountered the suspects Jamil Macapado, 28; Kevin Lacanlale, 21; Ivan Carl Gelindon, 28; and Mujahib Mustafa, 29, all of Barangay Baesa, Novaliches.
Albert tried to play peacemaker when he heard the suspects having a heated argument while in a drinking binge. One of them then snarled back: “Why, are you a cop?!”
Albert was stabbed in the abdomen and was later pronounced dead at Manila Central University Hospital.
Romart sustained bruises and contusions on his head and body.
Police said the incident happened at around 9 p.m. Tuesday, on Jojo Street, Baesa. It was not immediately clear who among the suspects stabbed Albert.
Macapado and the others were later rounded up by barangay watchmen, who then turned them over to the police. Jeannette I. Andrade
