MANILA, Philippines—Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio is looking forward to being interviewed by President Aquino, who is in the process of choosing the next Chief Justice to fill the vacancy left by impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Carpio said he is looking forward to meeting Aquino although he still does not know when the scheduled interview will take place.
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has submitted its shortlist of eight candidates to Aquino. Carpio got the highest vote of 7. Others in the shortlist are Associate Justices Arturo Brion, Roberto Abad, Teresita Leonardo-De Castro and Maria Lourdes Sereno; Solicitor-General Francis Jardeleza; former San Juan Representative Ronaldo Zamora; and former Ateneo Law Dean Cesar Villanueva.
Sources said Aquino has already interviewed Associate Justices Brion and Abad and Zamora.
