MANILA, Philippines – Two resolutions seeking to honor the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo for his “outstanding contributions” to the government have been filed at the Senate.
The first measure – Senate Resolution No. 843, honoring Robredo “for his outstanding contributions to governmental reforms in the country” – was filed by his longtime friend and political ally, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
The resolution cited Robredo’s achievements as mayor of Naga City, as president of the League of Cities of the Philippines, as chairman of the Regional Development Council in Bicol and as head of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
It also mentioned the citations that he had received like the 2000 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service, the 1998 Konrad Adenauer Medal of Excellence as Most Outstanding City Mayor of the Philippines, and the first-ever “Dangal ng Bayan” Award of the Civil Service Commission.
“The Filipino people are mourning the untimely death of Secretary Robredo. The country lost a rare and exemplary public servant in the person of Secretary Robredo,” the resolution said.
The second measure – Senate Resolution 848, honoring the memory of Robredo – was filed by Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr..
As the Secretary of DILG, Robredo instituted innovations and reforms in the agency, “promoting transparency, accountability and good governance,” said Revilla’s resolution.
As co-founder of the Kaya Natin Movement , Robredo was also a leading advocate, who aimed to promote genuine change and ethical leadership for the country.
“More than being an executive by many as an epitome of a true and genuine public servant, he was also a beloved family man, a good friend and a man of God,” the resolution said.
“The death of the good Secretary is a great loss to his family, his friends, his colleagues and to the Filipino nations as well,” it further said.
