Police add one more name to list of bank rob suspects
The top official of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has added another name to the list of robbery groups which could have carried out last week’s bank heist.
QCPD Director Chief Superintendent George Regis told reporters on Monday that they were also looking into the possibility that members of the Parohinog group were the ones who robbed the Bank of the Philippine Islands branch on Commonwealth Avenue on Friday afternoon.
“Two groups are now being considered—the Ozamis group led by Diosdado Alferez and the Parohinog robbery gang—which are both organized crime syndicates,” Regis said.
Citing reports received by the National Capital Region Police Office, Regis said the police got a tip as early as two months ago about a group’s plan to rob a bank in Metro Manila.
Regis said he was not privy to the contents of the report although he added that only two groups were capable of carrying out the robbery—the Parohinog and Ozamis groups.
Regis said that the group which carried out last week’s bank robbery had the same modus operandi as the two groups.
Regis earlier observed that the group which robbed the bank carried out the operation in a “quick and precise” manner. The robbery was over in less than four minutes with each member of the gang carrying out the task assigned to him with clockwork precision, the police noted.
The robbery was carried out by around 20 men armed with M14s, M16s and M203 launchers. The police have yet to determine how much money the bank lost.
