Before Manila, Quezon City was designated as the capital of the Philippines by virtue of Republic Act No. 333, which was enacted on July 17, 1948. Manila became the country’s capital in 1976 when then President Ferdinand Marcos issued Presidential Decree No. 940, which recognized Manila as the permanent seat of the national government.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
